ERCOLE ANTONIO RAGGI

Ercole Antonio Raggi, one of the greatest artists of the Baroque era, belongs to the tribe of Ticino, that starting with Domenico Fontana for over a century worked in Rome.

Among his Roman works to note the two wonderful angel in Santa Maria del Popolo, la the altarpiece of Santa Cecilia at Sant’Agnese in Agone, the Baptism of Christ in San Giovanni dei Fiorentini,

San Carlo Borromeo in San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Noli Me Tangere at Saints Dominic and Sixtus, the Danube in the Fountain of the Four Rivers at Piazza Navona, the portrait of Cardinal Ginnetti and the altarpiece of the chapel Ginnetti in Sant’Andrea della Valle; the relief above the portal of San Marcello al Corso.

At San Giovanni in Laterano, in the nave, one can see the reliefs representing the Baptism of Christ and Jesus with the Cross; in the church of Jesus the famous stucco in the vault of the nave.
