SAINT STEFANO ROTONDO
The mosaic in the apse of the chapel dedicated to St. Primus and Feliciano, which dates back to the reign of Pope Theodore I (642-649), with its bright gold background, is clearly Byzantine, and it is assumed that it was just a Byzantine artist to make it.
The two saints are portrayed on the sides of the cross on which is a bust of Christ, at the summit within a semicircle one can see the starry sky.
This is one of the rare examples of mosaic art of the seventh century that have survived in Rome.
