THE ARCHITECTS OF THE ROMAN RENAISSANCE: MICHELANGELO
Michelangelo, as an architect, in Rome worked mainly for Pope Paul III (1468 - 1549), who entrusted him with the design of Campidoglio square, then, on the death of Giuliano da Sangallo the Younger, the continuation of the work of Farnese Palace and finally, in 1547, appointed him director of the Fabric of Saint Peter.

Michelangelo didn’t succeed to end any of these projects, which were modified and completed by Giacomo della Porta.
The only Roman work that he completed, shortly before his death, it was the Pia Gate commissioned by Pope Pius IV.
