THE ROMAN RENAISSANCE IN THE AGE OF SIXTUS IV DELLA ROVERE, THE POPE OF THE SIXTINE CHAPEL

Pope Nicholas V had paved the way for the Roman Renaissance, a few years after Pope Sixtus IV della Rovere wanted to leave a memorable testimony: the Sistine Chapel.

Thanks to the newfound harmony with Lorenzo the Magnificent, the best "Florentine" painters came to Rome, and began to paint the Sistine Chapel (1480-1482).

Sixtus IV had so available: Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Cosimo Rosselli e Luca Signorelli.

A few years later in 1488, always under Pope Sixtus IV, Filippino Lippi painted, in Santa Maria sopra Minerva for Cardinal Oliviero Carafa, his masterpiece: the Carafa Chapel.

The next issue will be dedicated to Pinturicchio, Michelangelo, Raffaello e Giulio Romano.
