MASOLINO DA PANICALE

Cardinal Branda Castiglione in 1427 entrusted to Masolino ( 1383-1440 ), one of the greatest exponents of the early Florentine Renaissance, the decoration of the chapel dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria, in the Basilica of San Clemente, which is thought to have participated Masaccio, who had reached Masolino in Rome (1427), where he died young at age 27.

On the walls of the beautiful chapel, recently restored, are depicted scenes from the life of Saint Catherine of Alexandria,

while on the front facade is represented the Crucifixion.

In the counterfacade is painted a beautiful Annunciation.
