THE EARLY ROMAN RENAISSANCE

In this issue we present the painters to whom we owe the early Roman Renaissance.

The central figure of this period was Pope Nicholas V Parentucelli, portrayed by Beato Angelico in the Niccolina chapel as Sixtus II.

A man of extraordinary intellectual gifts, humanist and urban planner, he began the renaissance of Rome, as the center of Christian culture, in line with its imperial origins.

After Nicholas V the papal court became the place where you could meet the deeper minds and more daring, more than anywhere else in Rome extolling the importance of the client.

In chronological order, the paintings that you will see are the works of: Masolino da Panicale, Fra’ Giovanni, known as Beato Angelico, Benozzo Gozzoli, Melozzo da Forlì, Antoniazzo Romano, in the absence of his portraits, we show you the painting exhibited in the Gallery of Palazzo Barberini.

The next issue will be dedicated to the great artists who were attracted to Rome by Sixtus IV, the Pope of the Sistine Chapel, they were: Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Cosimo Rosselli, Luca Signorelli and Filippino Lippi.
